On a perfect day for tennis, the St. Mary’s girls remained undefeated in conference play with a 5-3 victory over Henley. The Crusaders are now 4-0 in the conference. Henley began with their strong number ones, both in singles and doubles they return state qualifiers from last year, but St. Mary’s won at the 2 and 3 spots in singles and doubles, and Addie Hopkins won 8-3 at number 4 singles to clinch the match. Eve Von Strahl won 6-1, 6-1 at number 2 singles and her sister, Maggie, took number 3 singles with an 8-2 win. Sammy Miller remianed undefeated in doubles, capturing a 6-4, 6,1 victory with partner Leah Sternenberg, and the team of Jenny Nguyen notched their seventh straight win with an 8-5 victory at doubles number 3.
The St. Mary’s junior varsity also earned a victory by winning three out of four doubles matches. Mia Castillo and Lauren Meyer won 8-6, Marina Qian and Jessica Ho had a 8-0 victory, and Shelby McNeil and Ashley Hamilton won with an 8-3 margin. Thao Do and Rena Li also played a great match for the Crusaders.
St. Mary’s returns to the court on Thursday to play against defending district champion, Klamath Union.
