Grants Pass High School vs St. Mary's School
5 3

The Lady Crusaders Tennis Team knew it would be a tough match against perennial 6A power, Grant’s Pass, but the team came within a match of pulling off an early season upset, losing 3 matches to 5. Almost every player on the team was forced to play different roles than they had last year, and all made strong showings in their new positions. Freshmen, Jessica Traynor and Hannah Poisson, playing in their first high school tennis match had a straight set victory at number four doubles. Sophomores, Mia Castillo and Lauren Meyer made the move to Varsity at number three doubles with a 6-4, 7-5 win. Junior captain, Susanna Schatz, switched from her traditional doubles role to pull out a tremendous come from behind win in a third set tie-breaker at singles number four. In non varsity matches the doubles team of Zoe Alftine and Chloe Qi, won 8-2, and Marina Qian and Sally Nguyen won 8-5. The Crusaders will take on another 6A school when they play at home next Tuesday against South Medford.
