The Crusaders struggled to find a rhythm against the Challengers, led by Caroline McMahon, in the first two sets. In set three, the Crusaders trailed 11-13, when Hallie Shean drove the team ahead with well placed serves. Shean served points 11 through 17. Shean went 19 for 21 with two aces for the match from behind the serve line. Grace Johnson served points 21 through 23 with two aces to help close the door on set three. In set four, the Crusaders trailed 16-6, when the team closed the gap behind serving from Shean and Ashley Gurr with key blocks from Katie Rietmann. The Crusaders brought the game back to 18-21, before the Challengers were able to finish the match.
As a team, the Crusaders earned 10 aces against the two-time defending state champions and 14 blocks. Leading the team in blocking was Katie Rietmann who put up 7 of the team’s 14 blocks. Rietmann also racked up 7 kills, while Natalie Thickett added her own 7 kills for the match. Shean had 5 kills for the night and led the team in digs with 6. Ashley Gurr had 16 assists for the night.
