Over the past two seasons, the Lady Crusader Tennis team now has ten district dual matches without a loss. They know they will have their toughest contest of the year when they play Henley on Tuesday, but on Saturday they were not looking ahead and took care of business on the court. Sammy Miller and Leah Sternenberg won their doubles match 6-0, 6-0, and Susanna Schatz remained undefeated for the year with a 6-0, 6-0 singles win. The match of the day came at number one singles, where Finley Cox jumped out to a quick lead , but her oppnent came back and won the first set. Down 5-1 in the second set, Cox, a sophomore, dug deep and played like a seasoned veteran, winning the next 6 games and capturing the second set. She pulled out the match with a 10-7 third set tie-breaker. Other winners for St. Mary’s included the doubles teams of Anais Fang and Jenny Nyguen, Grace Chan and Allye Lemley, and Lauren Meyer and Mia Castillo (who are also undefeated for the year). In singles, Hannah Poisson and Jessica Traynor recorded wins. The Crusaders have looked solid since returning from spring break, but will need to bring their top games to keep their district undefeated streak on Tuesday.
