The Crusaders put up a strong effort against top ranked South Umpqua. In both games one and two, the Crusaders were neck to neck with the Lancers until the late teens when the Lancers pulled ahead. The Crusaders struggled on offense to find a hole in the Lancers defense.
The Crusaders efforts were led by strong defensive plays as a team, with their passing efforts led by Lauren Russo. There were several long rallies with both teams battling to put the ball down. Katie Rietmann led the Crusaders offense with 6 kills while Hallie Shean and Natalie Thickett added 5 apiece. Rietmann was also able to slow down the hard-hitting Lancers by putting up 7 blocks for the match, while also getting numerous touches to give the defense an edge. Ashley Gurr had 16 assists for the night. Shean also went 10 for 12 with an ace behind the serve line.
