Overcoming a slow start the St. Mary’s girls varsity basketball team won their season opener 43-32 over a disciplined and competitive North Valley squad. Trailing by one heading into half, the Knights scored three quick buckets to start the second half and put the Crusaders behind by 7. Halfway through the third quarter St. Mary’s finally found some rhythm and momentum which began with a three point shot from the top of the key by senior guard Emma Bennion, followed by another three from sophomore guard Olivia Lippert. The Crusaders kept the pressure on in the fourth and buckets by post players Emma Ward and Abbie Christman gave them the breathing room they needed. Senior guard Ibixica Alvarez hit two free throws down the stretch to seal the final score.
