Game Recap

In a must-win situation, the Crusaders utilized an entire team effort to earn the win against the visiting Lakeview Honkers. The Crusaders struggled in set one and two to find rhythm and consistency in a new rotation after losing junior outside hitter, Hallie Shean, during Tuesdays match against Cascade Christian to a knee injury. In set three, the Crusaders came out strong behind the serving of Ashley Gurr whose three aces gave the team a small lead, 11-7. The team maintained the lead behind key serving from Susanna Schatz and Jane Cleary. In set four, the Crusaders battled back and forth for control of the momentum. Lakeview had the lead, 17-16, when Cleary served points 17 and 18 with an ace to give the Crusaders the lead, which they never lost. In match five, the Crusaders won the first serve, but served it out of bounds. Lakeview’s setter served the next three points, before missing the next serve. The Crusaders were behind 7-11, when they earned a side out and Schatz served points 9, 10, and 11 with 3 aces before missing her serve. Under Lakeview’s setter and middle hitter, the Honkers earned points 12, 13, and 14. The Crusaders earned another side out and Grace Johnson came through with clutch serves to finish the game while Lakeview folded under the pressure.
As a team, the Crusaders earned 18 aces behind Ashley Gurr (6) and Susanna Schatz (7). Abbie Christman went 15 for 15 with 3 aces behind the serve line, while Jane Cleary went 10 for 10 with an ace. Schatz served 18 for 20 for the match. Christman had a season high of 5 blocks, while Emily Awbrey contributed 2. Middle hitter Katie Rietmann put the ball down for 5 kills and Olivia King chipped in 4. King went 4 for 5 hitting, with all 4 hits being kills. Setter Ashley Gurr had 18 assists for the match. Defensively, the Crusaders were led by Katie Rietmann and Lauren Russo.

Game Recap

The score may not reflect a victory against Rogue Valley Adventist, but all three games were a win in the coach’s book. After only a couple practices working on a new rotation using designated setters, the ladies executed it with success. Brynn Traynor and Maile Damon-Tollenaere were the designated setters for the evening, both ladies stepped up to the challenge. Brynn and Maile played aggressive and controlled the court as leaders guiding the team to multiple volleys with three touches. Sophia Cox, Montana Driscoll, and Albie Borovansky provided offensive support landing multiple successful serves. This is such a dedicated group of young ladies! Please support the ladies at their last home game October 25th! Go Crusaders!!

The girls had a slow start but have finally put everything they have learned together! Kaitlyn Hansen was great playing on the net today and had a great dig from the back row! Jessie Traynor was really smart with her ball placement and helped the team stay in the game. Leonie Tu is always going out and having great passes. She also got the team some points off of her serves during the end of the second set. Ellie Hersch always goes in with an incredibly positive attitude and took charge in the setter position!
