After the dust has settled from the OSAA State Track and Field Championships held at Historic Hayward Field this past weekend, the St. Mary’s Track and Field squad has placed 9 athletes on the 3A All-State Track and Field teams for 2017. The All-State selection criteria are based on overall placement: 1st – First Team, 2nd – Second Team, 3rd – 3rd Team, 4th-8th – Honorable Mention.
On the boys side, two athletes are recognized for their all-state performances.
Senior, Thomas Cox threw a personal best 47′ 9.75″ on the first day of the meet, which was good enough for third place overall.
The top performance on the boys side for St. Mary’s came on the second day of the meet when junior, Riley Dexter cleared a personal best 6′ 1″ in the high jump event and a second place finish overall.
On the girls side, seven athletes had all-state performances.
Sophomore, Emma Bennion had an outstanding meet with an individual championship in the 300 hurdles, a championship as part of the 4×400 relay, second overall in the 800 and fourth in the 3000m.
Senior, Aessa Catt, sophomores Maddie Wheelock and Meghan Michels were also part of the state championship 4×400 relay team, and teamed with sophomore Tess McGill to place 5th in the 4×100 relay event.
Sophia Pastrano, another sophomore finished the first day with a personal best long jump of 16′ 1.75″ and a fourth place medal.
Katie Rietmann, also a sophomore, capped off the field events on the second day of the meet and finished 2nd in the shot put event with a personal best (and new school record) throw of 39′ 9.5″.
