Hayward Field – On the first day of the OSAA State Track and Field Championships, one by and two girls found the podium and set up a big second day. On the boys side, senior Thomas Cox saved the best performance of his career for the biggest meet. In the Shot Put event Cox through 47-9.75 to take home a third place medal.
On the girls side, sophomore Emma Bennion finished 4th in the 3000 meter event in a personal best time of 10:46.92, later in the day she qualified for the 300m Hurdle event, and will look to defend her state title on Friday evening. In one of the most outstanding performances of the day, sophomore Sophia Pastrano, seeded 10th coming into the long jump, increased her personal best by almost a foot in jumping 16-01.75 and stood on the podium as the 4th place finisher.
The bulk of the Crusader squad will compete on Friday evening as the 1A,2A,3A portion of the meet concludes.
