Baylee Hammericksen, a 14-year-old St. Mary’s eighth-grader, claimed seventh place in the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, Sunday.
She was one of 10 girls in the 14-15 age division vying for a championship in the nationally televised event at the site of the Masters, the first major of the PGA season.
Savannah Grewal of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, won the division by 1 point over Mimi Chen of Longwood, Florida. Grewal won the driving competition with a belt of 248.5 yards. Grewal totaled 23 points and Chen 22.
Hammericksen finished fifth in the drive (233.2 yards) and chip (15-feet, 4-inch aggregate) and sixth in the putt (7-feet, 3-inch aggregate) for 16 total points.
