Lakeview High School
Despite a strong 2nd half surge the JV Crusaders couldn’t overcome an early deficit and fell to the Lakeview Honkers 34-29.
Lakeview started strong, scoring early and often during the 1st quarter of action amassing a 28-0 lead. The Crusaders began to show some life when Alex Heycke returned the next kickoff for a touchdown and Brady Eiler forced his way in for the 2 point conversion. After another Lakeview score the Crusaders ended the half with a long drive that stalled just short of the goal line.
When the 2nd half started it was all Crusaders. The offensive line of Ethan Scales, Conner Walker, John Beattie, Cobey Aldrich, and Nate Thickett cleared the way as Brother Kaeo-Wailehua broke free in the Crusaders first offensive possession for a long touchdown run. The strong Crusader defense forced turnovers and shut down the Honkers attack while offensively the scoring continued with Brady Eiler punching in a powerful run up the middle and QB Sam Guyer connecting with Heycke for his second score of the game.
The 21 unanswered points set up the Crusaders with an on-side kick opportunity with under two minutes to play. The kick bounced through the Honker line but went out of bounds before it could be recovered by the Crusaders. Lakeview was able to run out the clock for a final of 29-34.
