On Saturday, September 24th the St. Mary’s X-Country team travelled to Northern California to compete in the 3-mile Clam Beach Invitational hosted by McKinleyville High School (CA).
In strong winds, and foggy conditions the Crusader girls finished third overall behind Ukiah and host McKinleyville with 67 points. With about 200 meters to the finish, Emma Bennion made a move and created enough separation to finish first individually with a time of 19:41.7. Lindsey Gurr had a very strong race with a time of 21:06, which was good enough for 6th place. Summer Keating (22:05, 13th), Sophia Pastrano (23:16.5, 27th), and Kate Vasey (23:32.7, 29th) rounded out the scoring for St. Mary’s.
On a very deep boys side, Ben McAnally was the top Crusader runner with a time of 18:18.5 and a 19th place individual finish. Gabe Mayer was just out of the top 25 with a 18:46.4 time and 27th place overall. Jason Farrell (19:18.1, 41st), Carson Grebosky (20:15.3, 52nd), and Ethan McAnally (20:20, 55th) rounded out the top five runners. Gavin Glatte was just out of the scoring with a 58th place finish and a 21:12.5 time. In the team scoring the boys finished 8th overall with a score of 182 points.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, October 1st when they compete in the State of Jefferson meet held at Lithia park in Ashland. JV Girls race begins at 1:00 pm, following by JV Boys (1:40 pm), Varsity Girls (2:20 pm), and Varsity Boys (3:00 pm). This year the race will also include a 3K Coach, Parent, Kid fun run at 3:30 pm.
