Game Recap

The St. Mary’s girls opened up their league season at home with an impressive performance against Rogue River and upended the Chieftains 8 – 0 with eight different Crusaders scoring goals. Freshman Claire Pyka wasted little time putting in the first goal off a well placed pass by senior Tara Clement in the 2nd minute. Five minutes later, junior Sara Klott fired in the second goal with an assist from sophomore Ibixica Alvarez. In the 35 minute, sophomore Meghan Michels scored in her sixth consecutive match with an unassisted dribble attack into the 18 and a shot past the Chieftain keeper. In the second half, junior Adrien Birmingham came out of goal to play forward and notched her first score of the year with an assist by senior Anna Peterson. Four minutes later, Birmingham assisted Peterson on the fifth goal of the match. Sophomore Grace Weber, playing in her first match since being injured in the opener with Catlin Gabel, wasted little time scoring her first goal of the season by hitting a 25 yard shot from outside the penalty box. Fellow sophomores Gabi Castillo and Maddie Wheelock added unassisted goals in the 60th and 67th minutes of the match. The shutout was shared by Adrien Birmingham and sophomore Sammy Miller making her first varsity appearance in goal. The Crusaders resume play on Wednesday traveling to Lakeview. The match is scheduled for a 4:30 start time.
