Game Recap

The boys of St. Mary’s have waited all summer to get to this game and we showed up ready to play. The first half was a battle that St. Mary’s won with an assisted indirect kick by Alec Robertson to Hunter Rothfus from the top of the box that found the back of the net. In total, Catlin Gabel had six shots on goal, all of which were outside the eighteen yard box and were all defended by the keeper, Ryan Trask.
Catlin Gabel came back in the second half strong and with a new strategy that eventually wore down our defense. Within a short time, Catlin Gabel overran our defense and put two in the goal. Then, with eighteen minutes left in the game, Catlin Gabel had a corner kick that was defended by the goalie, but accidentally knocked in by one of our own.
We answered back with a header by Justin Silsbee that put the game at 3-2 putting Catlin Gabel on their heals. In the final minutes we dominated and had a header that was on frame and well defended by the goalie, giving us a corner kick. We didn’t execute on the corner kick and ran out of time.
This was truly a game for the fans, they really came and supported the boys and I’m sure they were on the edge of their seat for most of the game. It was a great kick off to the season and we are already looking forward to our next game at Henley.
