Game Recap

In front of an exuberant Homecoming crowd, the St. Mary’s Crusaders did not disappoint, topping the Lakeview Honkers 55-7 in Friday night’s Southern Cascade League matchup. Sporting brand new kelly green jerseys, the boys may have looked like a whole new team, yet they performed at a high level just as they have been doing all season long.

On the second play of the game, junior Kyle Cahn sniffed out a screen pass and intercepted it. On the very next play, senior Bryce Bramscher ran the ball 20 yards for a touchdown. With sophomore Gavin Rajagopal’s extra point, the score was 7-0. On their next drive, the Honkers fumbled the ball and sophomore Aidan Young quickly dove on it, giving the Crusaders the ball once again with excellent field position. Two plays later, senior quarterback Thys Kuitert would score another touchdown on a 33 yard scamper. Rajagopal’s extra point quickly made it 14-0. The Crusaders would celebrate similar success throughout the game, with many players amassing impressive individual numbers during the solid team win.

Kuitert rushed for 41 yards and 1 touchdown on 5 carries, and comlpeted 12 of 16 passes for 173 yards and 1 touchdown – a 55 yard connection to senior Ryan Trask. On the season, Kuitert has completed 107 of 186 passes for 1,638 yards and 18 touchdowns.

Senior Calder Prulhiere caught 4 passes for 58 yards, bringing his season total to 334 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Bramscher had 2 carries for 32 yards and 2 touchdowns, along with 3 catches for 27 yards. So far this year Bramscher has 40 receptions for 853 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Sophomore Jake Reynolds carried the ball 3 times for 62 yards and 1 touchdown. This performance puts Jake at over 200 yards on the season.

When Rajagopal isn’t kicking extra points, he can be found carrying the football for many yards and lots of touchdowns. On Friday night, he carried the ball 8 times for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. This marks his 5th 100+ yards rushing performance, and he averages 126 yards per game on the season. So far this year, Rajagopal has run the ball 117 times for 1,011 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Join the Crusaders at Spiegelberg Stadium on Saturday 10/29 at 7:00PM as they finish their regular season at home against the Illinois Valley Cougars. St. Mary’s continues their battle for a playoff spot. The Crusaders have not made the state playoffs since the 1994 season.
