Game Recap

The Crusader girls converted a first half learning curve into a second half production to be proud of in their opening match of the 2017 campaign against the top ranked Catlin Gabel in Portland Saturday. Catlin Gabel tallied two goals on six shots in the opening half while the Crusader created a pair of excellent chances to score on four shots but could not convert on either. In the second half, St. Mary’s stepped up their performance scoring two goals in the first 17 minutes. Senior Sara Klott drilled in a shot from 20 yards out assisted by junior Maddie Wheelock. Wheelock added a goal from 16 yards out six minutes later assisted by junior Gabi Castillo. With four minutes remaining in the contest, Catlin Gabel managed to get a shot off from inside the 18 which caromed off the crossbar and trickled into goal giving the Eagles the victory. Making significant contributions for the Crusaders were senior goalkeeper Adrien Birmingham who made two exceptional saves and freshman Sophia Dobry playing in her first high school match at the forward position.
