Game Recap

At U.S. Cellular Park, the St. Mary’s girls utilized a strong possession game to earn a 3 – 0 victory over visiting Lakeview. Ibixica Alvarez scored in the 6th minute off a perfectly placed corner kick by Meghan Michels whose service was received by Gabi Castillo setting up Alvarez for the score. In the final minute of the first half, Sara Klott made a run with down the left flank and delivered a driven cross to freshman forward Claire Pyka who made another perfectly timed run into the penalty area and hit left-footed bending shot into the far post netting. Pyka is making it a habit to be in the right place at the right time. In the second half, Maddie Wheelock hit a solid shot over the outreached hands of the Honkers goalkeeper when Freshman Riley Kruel beat her defender on the right flank and delivered a service into a packed penalty area. Excellent passing in the second half allowed the Crusaders to control the tempo and complete the sweep with Lakeview for the season. Junior Adrien Birmingham earned her seventh shutout of the season in goal.

The next match for the girls is Saturday at U.S. Cellular Park at 10:00 against Cascade Christian.
