Game Recap

The Crusader girls completed a clean sweep of the league season by beating Illinois Valley 7 – 0 at U.S, Cellular on senior day. Sophomore Meghan Michels led the way with three goals and an assist. Michels scored in the 18th, 21st and 52nd minutes of the match. Senior Anna Peterson opened the scoring in the 14th minute after making a well-timed diagonal run to beat the IV defense with an assist by Michels. Peterson also assisted on Michels first goal. Juniors Mia Lawson and Sara Klott combined in the 54th minute to notch St. Mary’s fifth tally when Lawson fed a ball to Klott who fired an arcing shot from 24 yards out to score. Six minutes later, sophomore Ibixica Alvarez split the IV defenders with a dribble attack and drilled a low shot to the back of the net. The final tally for the Crusaders came off the foot of junior Adrien Birmingham in the 78th minute with a shot from 22 yards out. Birmingham combined in goal for the shutout with junior Emma Dewing and sophomore Gabi Castillo.

The next outing for the Crusaders will be in the OSAA State Tournament either on November 1 or November 5.
